S is for Sediment
The following applies to all systems and filters with the letter "S" in the part number.
When considering sediment filtration, we at Cascadian Water took the time to choose a fantastic sediment filter with high capacity and a wide range of particle size removal. Unlike your standard wound, pleated paper or bag filters, our multimicron depth filters will hold more sediment trapped in the entire depth of the filter for maximum sediment filtration with minimum pressure drop.
S filters are great at removing lots of particles, including oxidized iron and manganese. The S also protects your appliances, fixtures and valves reducing costly service calls for repairs or replacement.
The S filters sediment particles in your water down to 5 micron which is smaller than can be seen by the human eye. If the treatment system includes an S filter it always goes first in the water filtration sequence, it is the protector of downstream treatment which work better and lasts longer with sediment removed.
Remember the S removes particles smaller than can be seen individually but, in many applications, over time so many sediment particles are trapped the filter can actually plug up. Our customers are often very surprised at how much sediment is filtered by the S when it comes time to change their filters. Even if you don’t see an immediate need for sediment filtration, you can still use these filters to protect your house from unexpected sediment from the water source.
The basic S filter system is the ICS-S5 (5 indicates filtration down to 5 micron). You can also find the S sediment filter in any product with an S after the hyphen in the part number. These treatment systems include the ICS-SI, ICS-SIP, ICS-SP, ICS-SPU, and ICS-STP.
Replacements for Nuvo H2O
We've designed S filter kits to fit the Nuvo H2O housings and allow Nuvo customers to upgrade their treatment without changing their housings at all. These replacements add sediment filtration and PolyHalt softening while lasting twice as long as original Nuvo filters.
Check out this Nuvo Upgrade page for more details about upgrading your existing Nuvo H2O system.
Good to Know
When using S filters, you may notice that your water flow and pressure drops over time. This is your indication that the filter may be clogged and need to be changed out. Most people can get a full year out of these filters unless they have a significant amount of sediment or oxidized iron or manganese in their water.
